Kāpiti Basketball Association entered four teams into the 46-team competition involving the best teams from across the lower north island. The boys A team came a credible fourth in the B grade, and the two B teams came a competitive 6th and 8th in the C grade. Their series of results were: KBA 87 v Wairarapa 22, KBA 58 v Manawatu 18, KBA 58 v Hutt Valley 16, KBA 85 v Tararua Mana 15, KBA 73 v Porirua 15, and beating Wellington 70-26 in the final. The boys A team in recognition of all the local business who supported the teams namely Pirtex Paraparaumu, M & H Building, Dice, Concrete Doctors, All Area Scaffolding, Pou Arcitecture, and Trudi Szytkiel (Harcourts) spent time in the local community collecting rubbish – and they were just as committed to that task as they were representing the region and their whanau on the court.
Matt Lint KBAs youth development director said “This is the first time that we have been able to send four teams to this prestigious tournament, which shows the growth of the game and the increasing numbers of talented youth that are taking up basketball in this area. I also want to thank the amazing bunch of volunteer managers and coaches that worked together to make sure all the players enjoyed the experience”.
